As I’ve said to too many and perhaps even here on the blog that what has been happening the past 30 years is the wind up to the end of capitalism as we have known it, just as the Soviet Union’s moment when the wall came down, ours was the last market crash and the forthcoming one that has to happen due to the bubble we are in. Yes – who is he? Great vid. When I was a teenager, I had boomer age neighbors (now in theie 60’s like this prof.) who would talk to me about the flaws of capitalism, etc, etc from a socialist perspective. I used to think they were cranky and overly pessimistic. Not anymore. I look around me and see most of my friends and family — all college educated — struggling financially, on a variety of anti-depressants just to get thru the day because they put in 60+ hours a week and are terrified they will lose their jobs. The system IS unsustainable. What worries me is that if more large-scale disasters hit – financial and environmental — the gov. will use it as an opportunity to tighten the control mechanism even further. The people in the rural town I just moved have been conned successfully into believing these problems have been caused because they have not been good enough Christians. Never mind that all their jobs have gone overseas.
he says in his opening statements he is using “Marxist Theory” because that is what he knows. It’s pure garbage that looks at the world in terms of have and have not’s. There is no SUCH THING as UTOPIO as long as there is human nature!

@Jeff: I like to think humans are, and will continue to, evolve in some way. It’s nice to think that someday us humans will recover our innate inclination to share and respect. It’s through exposure to the world as we grow up that it is lost, or tossed to the side, rather. If you think this is bs, you can look up the difference between human children and monkeys. Children LOVE to help and be supportive, it’s through the conditioning of this world and our upbringings that it can be forgotten. It is quite possible that NOW we are finally evolving, overcoming conditioning and going back to our innate and natural ways of being. Maybe not a big one, but still a possibility to be explored and honored. 🙂
