Stephen Hawking vs. Shirley MacLaine… aka Shirley MacLame

On behalf of everyone in the entire and actual spiritual community of non-pretentious douchebags I’d like to give Dr. Stephen Hawking our sincerest apologies for the idiotic, un-evolved interpretation of all the new age BS to hit best seller lists of the last 50 years.

Yes, while Ms. Shirley MacLaine does indeed represent the dangerously and moronically simple-minded interpretation of complicated ancient teachings, which were meant to be passed down to those wise enough to understand them, but has instead been exploited by quacks and half-baked gurus in an attempt to cash in on the public’s desire for easy and absolute answers to life’s big questions, Ms. MacLaine does not in fact represent anyone who is an actual and true spiritual seeker.

I want to clarify that anyone idiotic enough to believe that you simply visualize something and it appears before your eyes or that you “manifest” a disease so other people can take care of you, or that you, and you alone are in total control of every aspect of your life and the universe is an EGOMANIAC and not coming from a spiritual place – NOT AT ALL.

So to recap. Sorry to Professor Hawking for the stolen knowledge getting into the  heads of the daft and for him then having hear Ms. MacLaine repeat the watered down New Aged drivel to him as a lame and ridiculous accusation that she clearly was not even aware enough to know was an accusation.

SORRY FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS PROFESSOR HAWKING!

And sorry to Shirley MacLaine – it really has nothing to do with her. I’m sure she’s a wonderful person. This is a comment on how people misuse spiritual ideas by making them too literal and absolute.

Someone mentioned I should give the quote by SM in case some were unaware and upon my investigation found she also believes people who died in the Holocost may have been murderers in a past life. Oye, Vey! Let me clarify something here: WE ARE NOT TO JUDGE! In ancient times the Gods would descend to earth and test mortals by appearing as vagrants in need of help. In other words whatever someone is doing in this incarnation we have no idea why nor is it anything as literal and idiotic as you were murdered so now you are a murderer. I personally think that having a sheltered life of fame and fortune is a vacation life where you probably incur more karma then in nearly any other situation other than being evil. But that can’t be true across the board because the universe is complex and how we interact with it along with our free will and what our energetic patterns are are far too complex for anyone to dicipher other than God. And I really don’t think Shirley MacLaine is qualified here to make such pronouncements about karma. She’s just making a fool of herself and doing a huge disservice to alternative spiritual practices of all kinds.

“Outrage as Shirley MacLaine asks: Were Holocaust victims paying for sins in past lives? (and did ‘her friend’ Stephen Hawking bring his devastating disease on himself?)
She also suggests Stephen Hawking gave himself motor neurone disease
Holocaust victims may have been killers in previous incarnations, she says
Miss MacLaine once insisted that she lived on Atlantis in an earlier life…”

Stephen Hawking vs. Shirley MacLaine… aka Shirley MacLame

A Word…

I haven’t written much lately for a number of reasons. One being I’ve been very busy. Two being there’s too much going on in the world and will continue to be so that reporting it before it happens seems like it will just cause a sense of paranoia and hopelessness. Unless I feel there is information which people can act on to change the future of something, I will remain silent.

I also don’t have an interest in doing personal readings right now because it’s too easy for me to become overwhelmed and worried about people. If anyone desires protection please use the Lesser Pentagram Ritual on a daily basis and know that I have asked my guides to help anyone looking here for protection so even if I don’t respond to you, it doesn’t matter, just reaching out and plugging into the energy of the Universe through whatever means you feel comfortable doing is most important. We all have our own path to God and I encourage everyone to find their own path as this is the way to enlightenment. No one can teach you, no one knows better than your own soul how to connect to the Great Spirit than you do. You are a unique soul – a collection of unique experiences, unique spiritual energy and physical experiences that are both at one  and are entirely special to you.

Meditation is the first place to start and once you have found a meditation system that works for you keep at it. My only caveat is to always remember that psychic protection in this polluted world is of the utmost importance and should never be disregarded no matter what tradition you choice to follow. There are some traditions that will tell you psychic protection isn’t necessary, but I have seen first hand a disturbingly high percentage of negative events happening to people who open themselves up in these traditions when all they have to do is add some simple protection. Perhaps when some of these traditions were invented the world was a smaller and more tribal place and not so disjointed and predatory.

It’s important to realize that if you raise your level of consciousness, you will also attract people who are as dark as you are light and will try to hurt you because they will see your loving nature as weakness to be preyed upon. One can be a spiritual warrior, both strong and loving. Gentle with those who deserve it and able to fight for those less fortunate or for oneself without feelings of guilt.

I think this is the primary mistake of many spiritual systems that they have separated enlightenment with survival. Allowing oneself to be a victim doesn’t make one a great martyr, but it is often a period we must pass through in our spiritual evolution as tests can and will come to those with spiritual power.

Let me be clear I do not advocate the use of spiritual power for malice under any circumstances – but this is an issue that most people will never have to really face. I also do not advocate using spiritual power to gain specific material gain in this world (such as in The Secret or other such “New Age” sorts of books.)

I believe one is here to learn and grow and one must surrender to the power of the Great Spirit and the greater good and flow of the Universe. That being said I do believe the Great Spirit can endow people with gifts that are meant to be used and when one follows their heart (this is where the Great Spirit contacts us most easily) our path is full of fulfillment. It isn’t always easy, it doesn’t necessarily bring us great wealth or fame, but it provides us with everything we need and the opportunity to be our best self.

BTW being rich and famous isn’t being our best self and some of the most miserable people on this planet live in the bubble of wealth and fame – they have everything they could ever want or need but no empathy or understanding. This is why over the years as Oprah embraced more and more New Age gurus and now on her network has a “master class” which I find completely offensive, as if because someone has been lucky enough to make some money or was at the right place at the right time and had half a brain as to how to utilize these opportunities they are somehow a “master.” A master of what? Everyone can’t be rich like Oprah, otherwise she’d be the norm thereby making her average.

Life isn’t this fantasy although many people would have us believe it is. The fantasy that if we just think something hard enough it will come true or worse if something bad happens somehow we deserve it. These very complex lines of fate, genetics, place, position, education and luck are not just the result of a single person pulling themselves alone by their own bootstraps and continuing to hold them up by themselves.

In days of old people were well aware of this, but as our culture has become increasingly narcissistic and the need to turn celebrities into demigods has inverted the truth, that no man is an island, and without a very complex social fabric and the right opportunities, breaks and the luck of having been born with talent and/or intelligence what appears to be a singular accomplishment made by one exceptional individual, is actually an accomplishment grown from a community of supportive people and helpful friends, good advice and the luck of assembling a great team of people to help the one front person and or beneficiary of many people’s sacrifice and hard work. It’s not just a magic sentence written on a piece of paper and repeated until one “believes in himself” enough to become a billionaire. Yes, having confidence does help, but it’s just the start of the chain not the chain itself.

Until I have something helpful to say I will keep my Lynx medicine to myself. For now I advise everyone to enjoy their family and friends, get their spiritual house in order and try not to get caught up in the prevailing anxiety that is ever-present. If I have any advice I feel will help people to make a better decision I will share it otherwise predicting things that one had no control over is simply anxiety producing and pointless.

Many blessings to all,

Denise

A Word…

Here Goes…

Here’s a post from a reader named Michael:

Thanks for the warning.

I would really appreciate if you can give a more detailed warning. I have been doing some googling for future events. My conclusion:
For the next 10 years, there would be massive riot in US & Europe, massive inflation, The Great Famine, World War, by the year 2020, 2/3 of human population would perish, the center of geopolitical power would shift from west to east asia…but i don’t know exactly when would all these happen.

I really hope, you can give a more detailed warning….suct as the Event, Location & their Timing. So that all of us can be prepared.

And an e-mail I got from Joe:

Denise,  Your predictions from September 2009 for Gold are playing out as you predicted. It is scary to know that your spirit guides are telling you to keep silent for know. Hope all is well. Your New York Buddy Joe

Reading all of your comments it seems you are getting freaked out which I do not want. I’ll tell you what some of what I have been told with the caveat you must not let yourself become consumed by it. You must make the choice to work on your own spiritual connection with God/Goddess/Great Intelligence. The more we do this the less intense these things will be and the more you can protect yourself and your family from what is to come. This may seem odd, but I know it to be true. And it’s important that each of you learn to trust your own intuition and wake to your higher selves. You all have the same abilities I do. Just as we all can talk or walk some better than others, with practice we can all become our best selves. The Great Intelligence needs us to wake up, grow up, we are destroying ourselves and the earth. But we can’t do this by rioting in the street or by any one simple act. In order for global warming to be fixed, well, we missed that boat and we may have a chance to correct its severity at some future time when humanity is brought to its knees, but we as individuals can not focus on that now.

For now we must forge the relationship to our higher self, that which is one with the Great Intelligence or God. We are about to face many horrifying things in our lifetime. How long and heavy and intense these things are depends on the lightness of our collective self, humanities ability to awaken to the light.

I suggest that everyone pray or meditate every day no matter how short the time, even if it’s just a sleepy prayer before falling off. Make sure to always question spiritual gurus, priests, psychics, including me. Always trust your own intuition above all else. And if you don’t have a very clear understanding of it, start a journal ( a dream journal also helps) and write down your impressions and how those things manifested, through this process you will learn to decipher your own personal symbolic language. You may have already started this but don’t give up on it.

Just like everything in life some are born with the ability to be great scientists or brilliant athletes and some struggle with math or even walking (that latter one would be me) but we all have gifts and one we all share is our connection to the divine. There is no one on this world who is more holy than any other, or more loved by God than another. We are all equal in that respect. Some have greater access to understanding of the divine’s messages while here on earth like messengers of the Holy Spirit/Goddess/God/Ain Soph, but that does not make them anymore holy or spiritual or anything else than anyone else in this world. It may make them more focused on that aspect of life due to that talent and that’s really all there is to that.

In these times we’ve seen many people come forth and claim to have “The Secret,” or have all the answers. I could name an endless stream of best-selling authors who through the avenue of “The New Age” have sold people all kinds of dangerous and irresponsible ideas and recklessly uncompassionate malarkey. When dealing with the subtler energies of the astral and mental planes we have to understand that they have akin to the rules that govern the physical plane. They are simple and if followed one will never incur negative karma and will stay always on the path of light. I will outline them so that it is clear. People trained in the older traditions (of which the New Age has borrowed) are sworn to secrecy due to the idea that power in the wrong hands and without understanding of the rules can lead to incredible danger not just to the individual but to the collective of humanity. It is my opinion that this is a huge part of the corruption of our connection to the divine and is part of the reason we are headed down a very dark road. I will list the main principles. Here they are:

1) Never impose your will over another sentient being – this includes things we would deem as positive. One should never even do a healing for someone without their consent or if one does so because consent can’t be obtained at the time – always include an out in your prayers such as, “As long as this is in accordance with their wishes and is for the good of all.”

2) Don’t ever ask  or visualize specific things like, “God – I want a brand new silver Toyota Avalon,” or “I want to win ten million dollars in this weeks lottery.” First of all this is a misuse of energy and for obvious reasons not going to do much good other than frustrate you and lead you down the road to insanity. But more importantly visualization techniques are powerful and are not meant for such frivolous things. It is also not taking into account the bigger picture, perhaps another person is supposed to win that lottery to learn a lesson and asking for specific things is imposing your will over the Universe’s plan and is a practice of the left-handed path. If you need financial help, simply pray for prosperity, for guidance, for help, you may petition the Great Spirit for whatever you  need as long as you don’t tell the Great Spirit how it should be done! If you have faith and do the work needed to help yourself (you can’t just be a recluse and expect to find your soul mate, etc.) the Great Spirit will honor your request when it is best for all involved and you are ready. Often by the time this happens you will have let go of the outcome and this will help enable the request to manifest.

I feel that it is important to put these rules out there as there are so many “New Age” instructional books and gurus who in an effort to swindle the public overly simplify the process and sell people false hope of instant gratification through visualization and the like. Maintaining a positive attitude and a strong connection to the Great Spirit doesn’t make a person rich or healthy or anything other than guaranteeing one accomplishes their purpose here on earth and lives a meaningful, well-rounded life where they learn what they came here to learn. I urge all people who are engaged in dabbling in these techniques for financial power over others for ego-based reasons, to stop this behavior, it is part of what is steering our ship off course. Greed is not good, it is one of the seven deadly sins for a reason. The wealthy are often spiritually corrupt as we’ve seen, and what we haven’t is, they are often lost and have this mad squirrel disease to fill up the emptiness of their soul which ironically can never happen via money.

Have you ever noticed that some of the most miserable and/or superficial people in this world are insanely wealthy? And some of the happiest are dirt poor? This is of course not always the case. There are some very wealthy people who stay connected to their spirit and there are very depressed poor people who are spiritually disconnected. My point here is that happiness is not connected to material wealth. And if we lived in a civilized western culture money and happiness and the ability to move forward would be even more divorced from one another. One would not worry about having to get an operation for fear of losing their home from the cost or worry about how they were going to pay for their child’s education. But in these more secular and less “Christian,” countries they are actually living the example of Christ instead of hiding behind the bible and using it as a giant swatter, shooing away those they prefer not to help. We may call ourselves a “Christian” nation, but we are the least Christian in our actions of any industrialized western nation.

Jesus was not a free market capitalist, remember his freak out on the money changers in front of the temple? This wouldn’t have been an issue if he put money above all else. And by the way, Jesus was extremely poor. Fancy that.

I will in my next post detail some of the events I have been warned about. Some of them have already started, ie. the earth changes and economic troubles. My fear is that these things are just the lead up to much more intense difficulties to come and yes, many outer planets are going into the warring sign of Aries starting with Uranus at the end of this month. It will go back and forth between Aries and Pisces for a while. Next spring Neptune will be strong in its natal placement of Pisces which makes me fear that unexpected violence will lead to intense loss. The riots we have seen in Greece maybe just a very small taste of the unrest to come…

If it’s OK I will post what details I can. Again, the reason I’ve been told not to go into all of this is because ultimately nothing can really be done about it on a large-scale. The main focus now should be on personal spiritual development and of course we should continue to influence and push those in power to do everything possible to rectify global warming and stay out of skirmishes and wars. But no matter what we must elevate ourselves, by doing so we elevate the collective consciousness.

Many blessings to you,

Denise

Back to Astrology & More…

Again sorry posts have been patchy, my whole family has been sick with a cold, that’s what happens when you have a little one. Anyway, just wanted to update everyone on some stuff. First I’ll give some background so all of what I’m about to write makes sense. When I was in my early 20s working as a psychic I met another psychic who was interested in channeling. She somehow got me to try it and I ended up contacting and communing with a being who called itself Zoma. I just want to remind everyone here that I was not raised in any religious tradition except for a minor stint with Catholicisms shortly after my father died (he was Jewish.) My father was also 24 years older than my mother and most of his family was dead by the time I was born. My first cousins are literally twice as old as I am but anyway I digress…

So it turned out Zoma was very accurate (this is where I got my wordpress handle as you can see) remarkably so. Zoma could answer just about any question directly with specific and very detailed information. There were two occasions I remember most because I ended up discussing them with the querants later which didn’t always happen. Most often the information was written down by another psychic and if told an hour later about what had occurred I couldn’t remember much about it. It wasn’t as if I was in a full trance, but a semi-trance where I was able to interact with Zoma and ask questions in my mind, Zoma would then give the information through me, telling me the things to say. One of the two instances that stuck with me was a woman who had a lot of emotional troubles, she asked Zoma if she had experienced a violent crime. Zoma answered yes, described the area, gave the proximity of the town it took place in to her home and the name of the street it took place on. I remember this because the woman despite the accuracy of the information (which she verified) still wasn’t sure as she had blocked the incident out of her conscious mind. The second was a question about Atlantis from a fellow psychic (a subject I knew nothing about and had no interest in). The psychic asked where Atlantis had been and Zoma gave a location and the name of a ruler. She subsequently did research and found this ruler referred to in an ancient text and reference to the exact area Zoma had claimed Atlantis had been in the same text. That blew me away not only because I had no idea about the subject, but the name of the ruler was very odd and complicated which Zoma correctly identified.

OK, fast forward to the internet – the Zoma sessions were done in the early 90s before the Internet was accessible to anyone outside academia. I decided to look up Zoma and up came information about an ancient Jewish scholar/philosopher named Ben Zoma in the second century.  I thought that was very strange as he (from what I could tell was pretty obscure) and I had of course never heard of him, but again the genetic or Jungian idea of the ancestral memory thing came to mind.

To make a long story shorter I have decided to begin working with Zoma again after many years, not because of Zoma, but because the group of psychics I was teaching to channel began to try and make me into some kind of “spiritual leader” which I am morally opposed to for a variety of reasons. It’s my feeling we all have the answers inside of us if we listen close enough, people can teach people things, but it then becomes the job of the student to take up the mantel and find their own path. I do not like deification or being put in the position of power or responsibility that someone with that title inccures, so I backed away from it. I also was something like 23 years old and not ready to take on anything close to that. I also saw some of the people I had taught abuse their power by lying about what Zoma was saying to control other people and get them to do things they wanted them to do and although it was mostly inoquous, it made me very upset and crossed a line I couldn’t be part of.

So recently I have enlisted Zoma’s help to redefine the astrological system which I feel is in need o an overhaul as many things are no longer timing out and I can feel we are in the midst of a paradigm shift. I believe this is why all the new planets have been discovered and rather than hodge podging it together I’m trying to see if there is a deeper and more meaningful way of getting to all the new astronomical data and its application to us here on earth. At some point I may ask you to participate in my research and subsequently you will receive a free reading via the blog. It will of course all be private and your identity hidden. If you are interested I will make an announcement in the next few months for those of you who wish to participate, so look for that. I will need feedback to help tweak the system, so those who participate will play a vital role in the creation of this new system of divination.

I want also to qualify that I am not New Age and my interaction with Zoma comes from a much older tradition of shamanism. My earliest training was in the ancient shamanistic practices of the Celts and their interaction with other dimensional beings known as the Sidhe or as the Faery people. I was trained in my late teens by a High Priestess who came from that tradition and later worked with a man who was trained in “High Magic” in the tradition of the ancient Sumerians mixed with study of the kabbalah and rituals of the Goetia. My teacher was into talking to demons on occasion, but I personally was not, and only participated in angelic and Enochian invocations. I have never engaged in harming, binding, hurting, manipulating or impressing my will upon others through magic – this in my opinion is the definition of what is termed “black magic.” I only engage in discourses and getting information. healing (if the injured wants the help) and self-improvement through my personal connection with the divine.  Having clear and distinct moral boundaries when dealing with supernatural power is essential to keeping sane and free of negative karma.

Many blessings,

Denise

Personality Disorders & More…

This seems to be a very hot topic, perhaps one we can all relate to and one that strikes a deep emotional chord. Someone mentioned that calling people who run the gamut from NPD to Anti-Social Personality Disorder uncompassionate is too harsh. I’m only stating a scientific fact. Research has indicated that people with Anti-Social Personality Disorder or those labeled Sociopathic actually only show lower limbic brain activities in response to emotional situations. Tests indicate they are literally not able to have higher functioning feelings such as love, compassion, empathy, etc. There appears to be an organic part to these diseases either non-development of certain types of bonding causes the inability to physically happen in the first few years of life or some people may just have this type of brain, this is where science is unsure.

But just because some people are unable to be compassionate doesn’t mean we should be compassion-less toward them. I am not advocating anything except whatever breaking point a person gets to in dealing with people with these problems should not be judged as everyone has a certain tolerance. And as Chris points out in her interesting post somethings are just forces of nature which we can not control and there is no point in taking it personally. In fact it may have nothing at all to do with us just as the tide moving in has nothing to do with our desire or karma.

It is admirable to take responsibility for the self and necessary for our growth however there are things in life which we are not responsible for and can not change. This perhaps is the lesson. We are not all powerful Gods. We are part of God but we do not control the Universe (Thank God for that, huh!) With so many agendas and so many issues and so many various lessons we sometimes get tangled up in other people’s issues and must learn to separate. It’s OK to not take responsibility for things we have no control over like our health, our family member’s insanity or the death of a loved one. This was my point about New Age philosophy, it often takes very complicated issues and dynamics and boils them down to a catch phrase and black and white thinking. The reason the esoteric side of things was kept secret for the seeker only to know was exactly because information is powerful and misinformation is dangerous. Before we can manifest perfect health and happiness through visualization there maybe 40 years of psychological therapy needed to undo damage done in childhood, or there maybe genetic factors that make it impossible for us to be 100% physically well. We can do our part by taking care of ourselves but we can’t stop old age, disease or death through wishing it away. Chaos and decay are just as important to the balance of nature as love and harmony are, this is not something anyone would say in a get rich quick medicine show New Age book that you would ever read. It’s not what people want to hear. We want to believe we are all powerful and can fix anything we want. But we often can not and there is nothing shameful or wrong with that it is part of the process of life to understand we all must go with the flow of energy we are swimming in.

I talked to one woman today who was having some health problems and was very embarrassed about them. She kept saying she could take care of it with her diet and blaming her health problems on herself. But the truth is she’s almost 50 years old and her body is going to have some trouble as it ages. I actually had to stop her and tell her that it wasn’t her fault and all she could do was go to the doctor and take good care of herself. That the sooner she did this the better chance she had of avoiding complications. She told me she had avoided going to a doctor for awhile because she was afraid to hear that something  might be wrong. This is a common problem as if not knowing will make it go away. This sort of wish fulfillment thinking (which is very New Age – this woman is also a New Age practitioner) is akin to visualizing winning the lottery and then flogging yourself when you got the numbers wrong. It isn’t very grounded and I think it is a left over from the child’s desire to blame everything on the self in order to feel in control.

Some great books on Personality Disorders are:
The Sociopath Next Door

The Wizard of Oz and Other Narcissists: Coping with the One-Way Relationship in Work, Love, and Family

Understanding the Borderline Mother: Helping Her Children Transcend the Intense, Unpredictable and Volatile Relationship

I Hate You, Don’t Leave Me: Understanding the Borderline Personality

Desk Reference to the Diagnostic Criteria From DSM-IV-TR

I found Understanding the Borderline Mother to be one of the best books on personality disorders I have ever read. It gives a very clear delineation of the disorder and how it manifests differently in different people. BPD is a very complex disorder that often has many other psychological disturbances that can muddy the water. People with BPD can often have addiction problems, have eating disorders, bipolar disorder and a host of other problems making people who have to deal with a parent with BPD feel very confused about what exactly the problem is with the parent. This book is much more helpful than I Hate You Don’t Leave Me, which is probably more suited to someone with the disorder and not for someone seeking advice on how to deal with someone with this disorder. I also think the DSM can be invaluable for understanding the basic psychological issues people have, not that one should go diagnosing anyone after reading the DSM. It just gives a sense of the spectrum of disorders and how complicated yet alike we as  human beings are. The Sociopath Next Door seems to be out of print but I found it to be fascinating as the author relays the spectrum of that disorder through various anecdotal stories.

I saw that one reader (Christopher) was caring for a mentally ill mother and had a mentally ill brother. I would highly suggest reading some of these books, they really will help you to feel not so alone and give you ideas on how to set better boundaries and ultimately (I hope for your sake) they inspire you to seek help outside your family. You really shouldn’t be dealing with all of that by yourself it can be extremely damaging to your self-esteem and to your life’s purpose as people with personality disorders characteristically derail others in an attempt to get more “narcissistic supply” or what normal people would call attention. They are like psychic vampires that deplete you entirely without a thought to your needs, health, spirit or purpose for being here. Do yourself a favor Christopher and don’t take on all that burden without at least some help.

Many blessings,

Denise

Personality Disorders & More…

Wow! Lot’s of Action!!

There has been a lot of action about some of the topics I’ve posted about. I was going to address some of what Cheri had to say early on in a post I started but didn’t finish. I understand the need to believe there is something greater at work when dealing with someone with a mental illness. But it’s my opinion that people who run the spectrum of personality disorders from NPD, to Borderline to Anti-Social Personality Disorder are devoid of empathy. I don’t believe they “volunteer” to be the bad guys. I believe they lack empathy for a variety of reasons, some environmental due to early childhood development, some have physiological problems and others from a spiritual immaturity.

Dealing with someone who has NPD, Borderline personality disorder or Anti-Social Personality disorder can be more than trying it can literally be dangerous. They are often violent and it’s my opinion that after trying everything one can to help them (if they are a relative or close friend) but they refuse to admit their actions, apologize or show the slightest bit of empathy towards you their target, then it’s your lesson to create a boundary. Sometimes that boundary is cutting them out of your life entirely.

If the person without empathy goes through their life taking advantage, using and exploiting others without any consequences, then how are they supposed to grow? They are like children and have to understand there are consequences to their actions. Their spiritual development is in peril and the targets life is at stake if the target does not remove themselves from the situation.

I think Cheri’s perspective very much illustrates my point having to do with New Age ideas which as someone pointed out are actually not so new. However they are new because the New Age has taken ancient esoteric ideas and modified them to fit an illusion. Now instead of years of studying ancient texts and philosophy one reads a book and becomes an expert. But the truth is our universe is very complex and can not be boiled down into little crumpet sized bites of information, ever. And more important is that “New Age,” ideology emphasizes the positive and ignores the negative. But we can not actually get to the positive side and operate in the light without examining the darkness by facing our fears and demons with realistic understanding of who we are as a person and then learning to accept and love ourself both shadow and light. Always knowing and keeping in check our dark sides, because we all have them, and anyone who claims they don’t is probably suffering from a personality disorder, unable to take responsibility for their actions, and having to make it appear to themselves that they are 100% pure goodness because they have deep seated feelings of inadequacy that they are not dealing with.

No one is perfect. Even Jesus Christ lost his s*it at the temple on the money changers. I’m sure it was not one of his proudest moments. We all do things that hurt others either unconsciously or not. It is only those who refuse to accept this, that are the truly troubled people in our society. Statistics show that 4 percent of Americans are Sociopathic (anti-social personality disorder). New research indicates that about 6 percent of Americans (mostly men – something like 60 percent) have Narcissistic Personality Disorder, which was once thought to be much more rare. Here’s a link to recent findings: http://pn.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/content/full/43/15/38

And the percentage of Americans with Borderline Personality Disorder (more women than men in this case) and with about 2 percent of the population. Here’s a link to an article on BPD: http://az.nami.org/Template.cfm?Section=By_Illness&Template=/TaggedPage/TaggedPageDisplay.cfm&TPLID=54&ContentID=44780

Borderline Personality Disorder is more complicated as they almost always have co-occurring disorders, making it difficult to figure out exactly what’s going on. One thing that all three of these personality disorders have in common is a lack of empathy or really an inabilty to be empathic toward others. They relate to others as extensions of themselves, and get upset when the other person reminds them (by not exactly mirroring their feelings in that moment) they are their own separate human being.

So we are talking about approximately 12 percent of the population have serious empathy disorders meaning they are not capable of feeling for others, therefore they have no guilt about doing wrong or very little guilt that they wash away with rationalization.

Let’s be real here. When someone has no empathy it is very easy for them to do terrible things to others, murder, rape, child abuse, severe child neglect, all the worst things we see in human behavior are driven from this state, either in a temporary break from reality when someone is in a rage such as in the case of crime of passion. However most crimes are not committed by ordinary people who temporarily become so enraged they loose control. The vast amount of people who murder, destroy, steal, hurt and do what most religions call “evil” are done by those with an empathy deficit. Often these people make up excuses for their behavior, see themselves as victims or as above others and therefore justified in their actions.

I have had the unfortunate experience of having a parent with one of these disorders, my other parent died when I was ten. And because I grew up with a parent with a severe empathy disorder I overcompensated and like poop I draw a lot of the empathy-less flies to me, because of my early childhood training dealing with someone like that. Los Angeles is also a NPD nest as everyone who believes themselves to be “special” gravitates toward tinsel town. So I have seen more than my fair share of people who lack empathy and seen the devastation they reek on others. Believe me there is nothing special about them other than the delusional world they make up for themselves to live in.

So to Cheri I’d like to say I hope you never have to experience anyone who has one of these terrible disorders because I’m quite sure if you did your feelings would change 180 degrees. After all it’s only the empathy-less person’s feelings that matter. Cheri, I’m hoping for your sake and those around you, that you are just being overly generous and kind hearted and not defending this group because you have an affinity for them, either because you are involved with someone with one of these devastating disorders, or are among the unfortunate who suffer from one of them. If you are involved with someone like this and are in the early stages of that relationship be very careful as these people can become extremely violent once they feel they have you. And if you are involved with someone with one of these disorders due to kinship, friendship or marriage, make sure to push them to get help – they can make progress. The earlier they get help the better their chances of recovery. Often however they don’t want help because their disorder doesn’t hurt them, it hurts others which of course isn’t much of a motivator because they don’t have compassion for others. Often it takes isolation from “loved ones” for those who are empathy challenged before they can realize they need help.

It literally does no good for others to prop up those with personality disorders or to become the long suffering victim of such people, as this only keeps them in perpetual spiritual and emotional stasis.

Best wishes and many blessings to all the kind people out there,

Denise

Insanity, Neglect & The New Age

It’s been awhile since I’ve had a chance to blog. Does anyone out there have a nutball in the family? I mean like an alcoholic, or a narcissist or someone with borderline personality disorder? It’s not very fun dealing with them. Not easy. They have a tendency to absorb all your time and energy by creating drama and making everyone in the family feel bad while turning themselves into a martyr. I’m sure most of you can relate. We all have someone who we have to deal with who fits this general description. I’m pretty sure that part of what fine tunes psychic ability is growing up with a crazy parent. It’s a heightened form of instinct, self-preservation. What will crazy do today? Be nice or kick me out of the house?

Every psychic I’ve ever known came from a seriously messed up family. I suppose being psychic is the consolation prize for dealing with insanity during childhood. Personally I would have prefered a normal family to “the gift.” But then we don’t get to choose sometimes, or perhaps I did choose before I could remember (on the other side).

Which brings me to a few points I’d like to make about how western people have assimilated the notion of Karma and Darma. We seem to have used it as a substitute for the old fashioned “God is punishing me,” or “I must be doing something right,” ideas. It’s become a New Age way of blaming the victim. I’m not sure if anyone saw the Oprah show about the girl who was so neglected that she was still in a diaper and weighed 30 pounds at the age of 6. She couldn’t feed herself, had lice and cockroach bites all over her and slept on a mildewed piece of foam. She couldn’t walk or talk and was still being fed from a bottle. She was cognitively still a baby from the severe neglect. Her name was Danielle and when her mother was asked in an interview about the girl she said, “All I’m guilty of is, is not keeping a clean house.” Then she started crying and said, “I love that baby.” And then when the interviewer asked the woman if she regretted anything (this was after the mother had been informed of the severe retardation she had caused the girl due to her neglect) she answered, “Moving to Florida.” Because Florida authorities were the ones who busted her and took Danielle away from her. This woman went out drinking constantly, left her child in the care of her two mentally retarded brothers and said to authorities, “I’m doing the best that I can.”

I was very disturbed by this story for so many reasons. The little girl was permanently damaged by this neglect. Although she was adopted by some kind people, her life was stolen by her sick mother. Children who suffer neglect feel invisible and those who suffer from any and all abuse feel its their own fault. This is a defense mechanisim. It’s actually easier to (as a child) believe you are the problem than your parent is, because you are completely dependant on them and the only thing you have control over is yourself, therefore if you’re a bad kid then you can change your behavior and magically your sick parent will become kind and loving. Of course this isn’t true but it is the fantasy all abused and neglected children have about their sick parent or sick parents.

Stay with me here I want to tie this mentality to many New Age beliefs. Louis L. Hay wrote a book in the late 1980s that broke down each illness and told you what was emotionally causing it, like you have back troubles, you are feeling unsupported. While I can see the value in how certain types of stress contribute to our physical problems, sometimes its really not our fault and we do not have control no matter how much we wish we did. Sometimes a person gets back trouble because they get hit by a drunk driver, or they fall down the stairs. Or they have a genetic disease. I have trouble with many of the New Age beliefs that don’t allow for chaos and the dark side of human nature. Many New Age beliefs hinge on a love and light philosophy where everything is decided by our souls before we incarnate and there are no victims and all is for the good of our development. Bull shit.

Pure and simple bull shit. There are people who throw monkey wrenches into our plans, there are people who do not live up to their side of a bargain and there are children born to psychopaths who treat them like potted plants and who steal their development and life away. How can this sort of serious abuse and neglect of a child be anything but the fault of the crazy person who could do that to a child and still believe they “love,” them. Why would any soul choose to incarnate into a situation like what Danielle had to suffer and what could she possibly have learned from it? She will spend the rest of her life with the cognitive skills of an 18 month old and when her foster parents die, she’ll end up in an institution. Does anyone deserve that? And if they do then why would Danielle have been rescued and what gives that mother the right to be so cruel?

The tangle of moral questions are too great to be answered with simple New Age platitudes or really any spiritual ideas because these are depraved acts done in the service of the darkest sides of their nature without thought or care of anyone but themselves. These people operate in the darkness of the unconsccious playing out their shadow selves while being completely unaware and unable to experience love or empathy. This mother clearly had some sort of personality disorder. She was completely unable to have empathy for anyone, even her own child.

Which leads to the question of what causes this incredible lack of empathy among people with certain personality disorders? Is it chemical, genetic or enviornmental or do they bring into this life some sort of spiritual lack that makes them incapable of caring for anyone else. These people often have deep feelings for themselves and see themselves as victims with elaborate justifications for their actions. They can turn their own evil deed into the passing stranger’s fault in a split second. They live like Plato’s cave people, in an eternal darkness projecting their emotional troubles onto others without ever seeing themselves or how they are hurting others. They never take responsibility or say they are sorry for anything as they see themselves as godlike, above all others, their emotions being the only ones that count. These are the people that bring chaos to our world, who cause wars, who are destroyers. They balance those among us who go out of our way to help others. They are the entropy to our growth. There must be a purpose for them, but I still haven’t figured out what it is yet.

Many blessing to all you kind and good people,

Denise

Insanity, Neglect & The New Age

Answering Readers…

From Melissa:

Melissa

I haven’t read the book you’re reading. But I spent 27 yrs going to a “new thought” church, & reading books that claimed to have all the answers, such as “all you have to do is believe” or “think positive” or “visualize”,or “send love”. I felt so bad that I was not becoming a “master” who had achieved whatever I wanted, etc. My final conclusion: free will of people is the bottom line. We cannot control what others choose to be, or do. And how others choose to be or do, is a big part of what affects everyone, in families, at work, everywhere. We can get some spiritual helps, & little or big miracles here & there, but it is not the way the self-help authors of recent yrs tend to paint things.Earth is not paradise. I think it is meant to be a school. And I think we all have our own “karma” or soul lessons to learn. We don’t all have the same problems, losses, hurts,or opportunities. Many opportunities are blocked by those who have positions of power. Most gov’t leaders are “power” people, rather than “love” people. It’s a mixed bagof souls on earth. It’s about individual soul growth, which could lead to collective soul growth, but it has seemed to me that most people are content with material well-being, and disinterested in the anguishes of others,as long as they are not affected. Selfishness is pretty typical of most. Not on your website, maybe, but it is prevalent. Do most Americans ache for what has happened to the innocent in Iraq,or our own military, or Afghanistan or now,Pakistan? I think not. I’ve not had the desire to be “negative”. When you get to be 58, and have tried what most of the books preach as the “way” for many years, you have to, if you have any sense, look at what the results are, and examine your experiences. We are all affected, for good or for bad, by the free will of others. I wish I believed differently, but I have had to look at realities, based on experiences. Love, love, love ,does not work with many people. Many people are not “run” by desire for love and peace and good for all. I think we’re meant to learn and grow in wisdom,as well as compassion. Our country is in a sorry state. People prefer denial to learning. People want to believe it is all about pol. party platforms. It’s bigger than that. All individuals have the choice to choose good,or evil. And they choose daily. Where we are now, is a result of individual choices. It’s very sad. I wish people would want to have non-denominational prayer groups going, all over the US and world. I hope you feel better and get well soon. You must be a strong person, to have had such high fever, yet still write. Blessings……..

Hi Melissa,

Man I couldn’t have said it better. Or woman I couldn’t have said it better. You are so right. This is exactly what makes me so very angry about the New Age medicine show. There are some insidious things you touch on which I’d like to go into detail here about, firstly, many of these books have a (truly goofy American) “blame the victim” mentality. Let’s take the Louis L. Hay books in which she basically says that if you are sick, it’s your fault! So if having cancer isn’t bad enough, well that’s because you didn’t speak your truth you fat bag of lard! That’s the general undertone of it. I’m not saying that there aren’t symbolic things in illnesses that speak of troubles in our lives but that still doesn’t make it the person’s fault. Is it a child’s fault if they are severely abused? Well, I guess Louis L. Hay would have to say hey, yeah, for sure! Because as it turns out people with abusive childhoods are statistically proven to be much less healthy and die at an earlier age than those who had happy childhoods. Those damn little brats, I guess they did something horrible in their past life to deserve it. This is just so idiotic. And horrible. This is exactly why the ancients did not reveal their teachings to morons who would do exactly what many in the New Age community are doing to these ancient philosophies, taking them out of context and making everything black and white when the universe is so complex it can’t even be boiled down to the color spectrum we can see with our eyes, there are wave lengths of light we can’t detect, sounds we can’t hear, and ideas we obviously can’t comprehend.

Clearly if all we were doing was paying off old karmic debts we would be off the old wheel in no time but that’s not really how it works. I’m not even sure if the idea we have about karma is correct. I believe we can transcend karma through forgiveness which is much easier said than done and lets not forget that old debts were once created, meaning we are unfortunately constantly creating new karma that has to be corrected. So when is it old? When is it new? Does it even matter?

No. It doesn’t matter. Because karma is just the new way of saying, “it was their own damn fault!.” And failing to become Oprah or Jim Carey (who carried a 10 million dollar check in his wallet until he got one as some kind of weird New Age attraction ritual) because you haven’t been able to manifest incredible fortune, wealth, fame and perfect health through visualization is just the New Age replacement for the old American Puritanical idea that rich people were intrinsically good because God had blessed them with wealth. As it turns out God did not bless Jesus with wealth. I guess He really must have hated him.

All of this nonsense is justification for why the rich should be allowed to get rich without guilt and why the poor should just lay down and die because they didn’t really deserve anything anyway. I have a close friend from India who was a member of the Shadow cast. His father was a famous author and his mother a scientist but when people found out they were of the cast they wouldn’t allow him in their homes anymore. It’s the same idea in that case.

The thing I most want to say in regards to all of this crap is, it’s CRAP! And the universe, God/Goddess/Creator is far too complex and our personal evolution and how it interacts with the collective evolution are far too complex for any of this simple minded BS. In this world their are victims, their are criminals, there is evil, there is good, mostly there is a mix of all that goes between these things that is so tangled up it would take a billion forevers to entangle it. It is not our place to judge ourselves or others. It is our place to find compassion for ourselves and others and to fight against injustice and point out wrong headedness so we can all evolve and grow.

And Jennifer:

Jennifer

Well, Denise, I agree with you again. I also have this book and could only read a portion of it for exactly the same reason.

We are all so individually hardwired by our own childhoods that many of these “archetypes” just aren’t in our brains. I suppose this is where I disagree with Jung. I don’t think that there is a collective consciousness as strong as Myss and Jung have proposed.

Or, how about this? Maybe there are two separate collective consciousnesses. And maybe that is the reason that people like us simply don’t understand the seemingly missing spirituality of what appears to be the majority of Americans today.

Possibly, the people that are on what seems to us a less spiritual path, have more archetypes or less than us.

Maybe these people have an archetype that favors the propagation of their own race, especially their own offspring at all costs – similar to other, less evolved beings that we share the earth with. Maybe they cannot understand the idea of our “tending” the planet, as they cannot get past the concept of their main purpose being to propagate. And anyone: homosexuals, pro-choice advocates, anti-gun legislators, birth control enthusiasts. etc. that could possibly get in the way of their or their children producing offspring are considered “evil” in their eyes. This is the survival of the fittest.

And maybe some of us have another archetype (maybe a God or Mother Earth archetype) that favors the love of all species and the planet above all else. I must admit that there are times that I could see that the earth could be better off with the human race. But then, I love feeling nature and talking with my spirit guides (angels, arch angels, power animals, spirit guides, healing angels, healers of the universe, the Universe, Nature or Mother Earth, God, Jesus) so much that I know that we have a wonderful place on this earth. We are here for an important reason that is probably so vast that we couldn’t begin to comprehend it.

Well, maybe this is the dilemma. Maybe this is the question of our times. Maybe some of us are missing or have extra archetypes.

Thanks for your post, Denise!

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

You maybe right. I have often felt that there are two halves to the human collective consciousness. There are two halves to our brains, the right and the left, so maybe we have a split here as well in the over-soul. It does seem like one side pushes us forward and the other back, one is patriarchal and one matriarchal and compassionate. So you may very well be onto something. Like I said earlier, I’ve felt us at a crossroads for a long time and have felt us flipping back and forth. This would explain it.

And Hello:

Hello

As a parent I find myself thinking about my son’s future and what it might look like. Denise, you mentioned in a prior post about the feeling you were getting that we might be past the “tipping point of no return” in terms of the environment, and that the Bush administration was holding back information in that regard. I am not psychic like you but I had a feeling like that about a month ago. The feeling washed over me out of no where.

Do you get a sense that a shift in energy policy will be a successful part of the Obama administration?

Thank you for your compassion and caring wisdom you bring the days I read your Post.

Hi Hello,

I’ve had visions of our demise since childhood but I’ve always had the feeling they were warnings and not absolute. I really feel we don’t have much time, maybe 5 years to be realistic in order to radically change our ways or we will leave our children to inherit a horrible, terrifying place. Honestly, this was a very difficult thing for me and a reason I worked hard not to have a child for many years despite my personal desire to have one. I’m so thankful that my daughter chose me to be her mother however I am terrified for her and sometimes just break down weeping at the potential future she may have to deal with. That being said I have always done everything within my personal power to change things, and everyone doing everything within their personal power is not and will never be enough. Our governments have to change, our industry has to change, the wealthy and powerful have to change in order to save the world for our children. And I think they are betting on having an escape hatch. I do feel Obama will make changes but I feel he’s distracted by the economic situation which is understandable. Bush left our country stabbed a thousand times, bleeding from everywhere while being dragged by a Brinks truck. First we have to get stabilized, stop the bleeding, detach from the brinks truck and then after we live through that go and save our kids. I think this is how Obama sees it. We just have to keep putting pressure on our government and stay involved in environmental issues.

To comment on what Denise and grace43 have said about what it takes to chnage — it seems humans need to face extreme pain and/or sustained discomfort before they will change. What’s spooky is that we are on the same wavelength again, Denise, because I was in the library 2 days ago and Stephen King’s The Stand fell out of the stacks when I was walking by and I checked it out. I am halfway thru it and if you have not read it it is about a killer flu virus (99% mortality) that the Army has created that is accidentallt unleashed. It depopulates the U.S., laying waste civilization as we know it. Not so far fetched as when the book was written 20 years ago. Gaia may beat the U.S army to the ELE, tho…

Hi Juno,

That is spooky especially since I have the flu!

From Grace:

grace43

Any ideas on how to get people to listen?  I have been on this mantra for over 25 years – writing letters to Congressional Representatives, signing petitions, starting recycling programs at work, talking to people, etc and I don’t think I’ve gotten very far.  I can’t imagine how the folks who have been saying this exact same thing since the 60s must feel.  Sometimes I think the only thing that will make people listen is if a major catastrophy happens in someplace wealthy.  Not a tsumani in Southeast Asia or a tornado in China, but in someplace western and wealthy.  I believe a majority of the rapidly declining middle class and the rampantly increasing poor are mostly convinced but without convincing the profiteers global change is worth it, I fear we won’t get very far.

I am sad to say that rampent, out of control gas prices may have done more for the environment than most environmental efforts in the last 20 years.  I can’t afford another car, but we could do more getting away from using gasoline to run cars than anything.

I do have some hope because after many, many years of protesting against one of the nation’s worse polluting power plants, our efforts finally paid off.  New air scrubbers have been installed and that plant is now over 98% emission free!  In addition, the new system requires more upkeep so an addition 340+ workers were hired in this economy in a poor area that despritely needed the jobs.

We are looking for ways to find employment for people when it is as obvious as the nose on our face that there is a major industry waiting to be born in cleaning up the environment and restoring lands destroyed by strip mining and other disasterous practices.

After over 25 years of trying, I haven’t found the answer.  But now even my father, who never really cared much before, is starting to care.  It’s not much, but it’s a start.

Hi Grace,

Everything you have done has made a difference. It may not feel like it sometimes but it all does make a difference. The fact that your father has started to shift proves my point. He represents thousands if not millions of people like him.

From Wei:

Denise, I think you are absolutely right. We are at a cross roads. I am in the process of learning past life regression therapy and I believe in past lives. If all of us understand that we will have to come back to this world and home, we would take care of it better. The analogy that I think of is that the roads we can take are already marked, but which road we choose is up to us. The destination may change midway, but more often than not, we are set on a particular course. The older I get, the more I believe that free will comes into play if we break our karmic issues, otherwise we are destined to stay on the road we have agreed to be on. The truth of the matter is, if we plunder our resources, there will be nothing left. It is very obvious that we are on the way of destroying ourselves. I am ashamed of the garbage and CO2 I produce daily. Thank you for imploring all of us to do better. It is time for a change in mass consciousness.

Hi Wei,

You are absolutely right. We can break our karmic cycle, it’s actually not as hard as we think. And free will is true, there are thousands of time streams that are possible if even a few of us change we can actually change the whole of things maybe not entirely but enough to shift the future. That is the feeling I have now. I feel people are waking up and there isn’t a defined time stream. We still have a chance to change our world but once we get past a certain point it will be too late.

From Jennifer:

Jennifer

I believe in free-will, but there three books written by Hank Wesselman about his experiences when he went into involuntary trances for a period of his life that are worth reading. I picked up the second book (“Medicinemaker”) at a Border’s in Deerfield, Il in 2000. The author tells the story of a person from the future that he has a type of vision with. He is actually able to see through this man’s eyes. They share the same power animal, and the author believes that he is the man’s ancestor…anyway I highly recommend the books because they give a glimpse into the distant future of 5000 years from now in which the humans are sparsely populated and technology and even metals are non-existent. The first book is called “Spiritwalker: Messages from the Future.” The author is an anthropologist and approaches his experience from a scientific viewpoint, if that is even possible.

Hi Jennifer,

There are actually a lot of books that make those claims (and a lot of scientist/shaman combos who have come before him) also a lot of psychics who have for years been saying that we are going to go through a period on earth were there aren’t many humans. I don’t think this is absolute at this point. I think it’s a bit lazy. We are here for a reason, not to just give up to the powers that be but to change the stream for the betterment of our children and children’s children and for the betterment of all the Creator’s creatures.

From Pat:

Denise,
The get the truth must listen to those who know. Nisargatta, a spiritual teacher stated the following: To help others one must be beyond the need of help.  Everybody sees the world through the idea he has of himself.  Great teachers know the world is not coming to and end, mother earth will continue, there is no karma and no need of fear.
The mind has no capacity for truth….none.
Ramana Maharshi is also a great wisdom teacher who confirms the above. Fear is nonsense.  Let it go.
P.

Hi Pat,

Firstly I would guess you were born before 1957, My guess is Pluto in Leo because I’ve had this argument with countless seekers in your age group. First of all I am not of the belief that gurus are possible or spiritual leaders. I have been put in that position before and rejected it out of hand. The reason being I believe everyone must find their own path to God/Goddess/Great Spirit and anyone claiming they are more holy than anyone else is full of crap. I do believe that we can teach each other a great deal and that is what we are here for. Anyone elevating themselves to the level of “Great spiritual leader” or “Great teacher” is delusional at best, at worst all I can say is Jonestown. I think by your comments you are missing the point of what I was trying to impart. Fear has nothing to do with the issue. In the universe stars, planets, galaxies, you name it, they all die, they all have a shelf life. To believe that the earth is somehow immune to the laws of nature is inane. In the physical world everything has a beginning and and an end. The idea that humanity can’t kill the earth is just a lame justification for our stupidity, it’s equivalent to saying that cancer can’t kill human beings because it’s not big enough, the body, humanity is too great, too powerful, too intelligent to be killed by a lowly disease. I don’t mean to diss your spiritual teachers but this is the problem: when we let other people think for us we lose perspective, our own connection to the universe and our own personal spiritual development. You have perfectly illustrated why I think following any guru is a horrible idea and why we as human beings should always take what we can from wherever we can, analyze it (that’s why we were given this sophisticated hardware) and find the meaning in it for ourselves. Quoting other people is as empty and meaningless as giving me a math problem to the question, “where does the soul go after death?”

There’s a reason we spend so many lifetimes here on earth. Our brains are wired to follow. We are social creatures but our soul’s goal is to individuate and at the same time find it’s way back to the One, bringing with us new insight and elevation to add to the One/Creator’s being. That’s my belief.

I have been extremely psychic since I was born. After my back was fractured and my disc herniated when I was 12, I spent most of a year laying flat on my back, no school, just meditating on things and reading. I began learning meditation at that time. Of course I taught myself. I tried to become a Roscicrucian through the mail but I was too young to join. I had amassed a huge library of occult books by this time as I had noticed that I seemed to scare people and was often asked how I knew things about people. After a lot of telekinetic events like the radio dial turning on its own while I sat in front of it, the TV flipping on and off and the garage door going up and down all day I started to think that there was something odd going on, this was when I was about 10, before my father died. I’m not going to go into all the other bizarre things that happened but anyway lets just say I had some very intense and scary experiences mostly because I wasn’t trained how to control my ability and other people’s fear made the situation much worse.

After my father died. I made if my mission to become Catholic (my father was Jewish, my mom Catholic and the Rabbi felt it was best for my brother and I to be raised in her religious tradition). And so I read the bible, attended CCD was confirmed, baptised and full on for a couple of years. When I realized this religion had a lot of confliction and that it didn’t suit my needs as a psychic/sensitiveve I looked elsewhere. I went to every friends church or temple in search of the perfect thing. I had Mormons do presentations, went to Buddhist temples, searched nearly every organized religion available in the Chicago land area and nothing stuck. Oddly during this period a woman of the western shamanistic tradition wanted to teach me but being afraid of this because I was still Catholic I refused. I gravitated eventually toward the western esoteric tradition of high magic because it had roots in the Judeo-Christian tradition, called upon angels, used the cabala or tree of life as its basis and used the names of God I was used to.

When I went off to college and learned more about the Judeo-Christian mythos and history I became increasingly turned off to it. Besides my own personal experiences that led me to believe it wasn’t for me personally. I had already started coming to the conclusion that too many of my lifetimes had been spent in other traditions that I couldn’t start all over again with that one. My soul just didn’t connect in a deep way with it. I was drawn toward ancient western shamanism very akin to Native American, Aboriginal and all ancient shamanistic practices actually. I studied with a woman who supposedly (I say this because it’s not like she had a certificate on her wall) studied with a group of people who had kept the ancient traditional Celtic religion and shamanistic practices alive. I studied to be a priestess. The study involved about 8-12 hours of trance work several times a day, outside and in rugged conditions from sundown until sun-up. Doing crazy stuff that seems reckless to me now but I was 18 at the time and fits very much the ancient shamanistic traditions. I came by my religious/spiritual experience through very hard work that had started long before I came to this teacher.

After a year of studying in that situation I started to feel  the idea of a hierarchy was wrong because it played upon the human weakness of ego and  led to abuse of power. I tried to convince the two young women I had brought into the situation with me to leave but they were too involved and as one was my best friend, the other her sister, I felt I couldn’t leave until I convinced them to get out. After a trip to Big Sur in Northern California where were sleep deprived for about a week, not allowed to wear shoes or socks, made to walk alone in the forest at night on visonquests and on one occasion were made to walk on a ledge that was about 8 inches wide with about a 500 foot drop, I finally convinced my best friend that there was some power tripping going on and it boarded on a cult. She agreed to leave with me. Unfortunately her sister did not. The two never spoke again. They have been estranged now for more than 20 years. They were very close and I felt and still feel very badly that I got my friend and by proxy her sister involved with this “teacher.”

I studied with other people who were not power trippers and they truly just wanted to impart their knowledge and I thank them for that but they also would never have called themselves “spiritual leaders” nor would they have considered themselves anything but a simple teacher passing along what they learned for the next person to make what they would of it. They didn’t make money on it, actually none of my teachers did including the intense/head trippy one.

So fast forward to my early 20s out of art school when I began to work professionally as a psychic. I somehow figured out how to channel and was very accurate in terms of my information. About a dozen or so psychics who I worked with ended up wanting me to teach them how to channel as well. Actually what they wanted was for me to channel and they wanted me to be their “spiritual leader.” I can’t tell you how many of these well meaning and good hearted psychics looked at my palm and told me I was going to be “a great spiritual leader,” and I looked each one in the eye and said, “no, I’m not.”

The reason I was so sure about this was because I don’t believe in spiritual leaders. I don’t believe anyone should lead anyone in that area of their life. Teaching people to get closer to their own truth is fine, helping others to get in touch with their higher self, OK. But anyone who claims to have a direct line to God that you have to go through, watch out! That is just the biggest scam in the universe. We are all part of God and NO ONE! NO ONE is more connected to God than anyone else. Absolutely. There are some people who have worked harder on listening and being in touch with God. Some who have a better understanding of the signs given them, some who understand signs and are more psychic. But no one is more spiritual than anyone else. That’s akin to saying I’m more real than you are because I’ve got more muscle so that makes me physically denser so, I’m more physical hence I’m more present and real in the world. How ludicrous! I can’t tell you how the whole thing makes me sick and angry, more than almost anything else because it just leads people to feel, once again, powerless, less than someone else and enables people to unscrew their brains from their heads and let other people fill the space between the ears with their thoughts. It’s awful! Even in what has become 2 of the world’s biggest religions based on the teachings of masters or in Jesus’ case, saviour, if you actually read what they themselves said, they never claim to be anything but human beings who are nothing special and tell their followers to look inside and live their life with compassion and find that connection to God themselves.

I could go on all night about this and I’m sure I will at some point but I have to go to bed, I still have the stinkin’ flu!

Many blessings,

Denise

Answering Readers…

The Flu & Sacred Contracts

I’m sorry. I came down with a terrible flu, had a 104 fever last night and am still  sick. But I wanted to know if any of you out there read the book Sacred Contracts by Caroline Myss? I bought it a while ago and never really read it just sort of skimmed it but decided recently since my daughter kept pulling it out of the bookshelf, to give it a read.

Originally I think I lost interest because it seemed too pat, sort of like The Secret. I’m not a big believer in anything that boils down the whole of the universe into simple answers like “all you have to do is visualize it.” It’s not true. If it were true we would have world peace, no hunger, no disease and everyone would be a billionaire genius. Visualization does help but it’s not a panacea as suggested by that book/DVD. This is sort of the problem I have with pretty much all New Age stuff. It takes ancient esoteric philosophy and dumbs it down in order to sell it to the masses like a medicine show.

But anyway back to the Myss book. The idea that we basically co-create our life and work out ways to interact on this plane with those we have karma with isn’t Myss’ idea, it has roots in older Western esoteric tradition but none the less it’s always good for people to understand how much power they have and help them to realize it. I thought this was the basic premise of the book and I’m sure was Myss’ intention. However she seems to make gigantic leaps in logic which she doesn’t bother to explain like the 4 primal archetypes of Child, Victim, Saboteur, and Prostitute. I’m sure we do have primal archetypes and individual ones as she states. She claims she bases this on Jung’s work which I’m sure has truth to it, but here’s what I don’t get. I don’t get that we all would have the victim and the prostitute as archetypes. I can understand the child since we all are children at one point and that is a stage in our development. And the saboteur, as there are usually family dynamics that cultivate competition and often losing is a way of winning. But the prostitute? OK, maybe but I want some kind of logical explanation for that. Is it because this is the “oldest profession,” maybe, I did see monkeys (literally) engaging in a form of prostitution in Bali. A female wanted some of the male’s banana and let him bonk her for it. So perhaps we are hardwired to have this in us? I could buy it but at least give me some kind of rational reason because I feel that this book is full of these giant leaps that may or may not be true. It’s just as reasonable to assume these theories are based on her own personal experience and could be projections of experiences she’s noticed which is entirely legitimate but it wouldn’t necessarily account for a universal archetype.

So I’m still reading this book and my question to all of you out there who have read it: Did any of you feel as I did that it seemed at times to reflect some sort of personal issues that she assumed were univesal? And at other times painted things with such a broad brush that it defied usefulness? And then at other times when it came to understanding the other archetypes did a very poor job of explaining them? And why are there 4 universal ones and 8 personal ones. That seems rather arbitrary. Maybe some people have 16 personal ones and some 5. Again no real explanation for how she arrived at these epiphanies.

I have to go back to bed. Don’t get this flu. It really sucks!

Many blessings,

Denise

The Shadow Self

Many New Age concepts and ideas focus on the love and light side of human nature and neglect dealing with the shadow self. In ancient esoteric tradition the shadow self is as important to master as forging a connection to the higher self is.

By the shadow self, I mean the dark side of ones nature, the place where pain, childhood scars and wounds get hidden. Often it is this part of the self we work very hard to keep in the dark for fear of seeing ourselves as imperfect, wounded or incapable. It is the shadow self that plays the trickster giving us a visceral dislike of someone who reflects this part of us, or seduces us into a relationship that opens up the closet full of familial negative patterns and self-sabotage.

It is not that the shadow self wants to destroy the self, it is the shadow’s job to make us face our deepest pain, fear, sadness, remorse, shame and grief in an effort to heal and move past these events that marred our sacred wholeness.

We live in a culture that promotes easy answers, quick solutions, magic pills and 7 steps to success. Oprah talks about “light bulb” moments, as if one moment, one concept or one idea can actually change the trajectory of someones entire life. In reality our experience is built in layers brick by brick, no one piece of information will solve everything, no one solution is right for everyone and while there are helpful principles and lessons, there is no Secret behind all of life’s dilemmas and no simple solution to just visualize what you want. Sure all those things are helpful tools that can transform a person’s life, but all the visualization in the world of meeting the perfect mate isn’t going to work if one is an agoraphobic shut in whose only human contact is with a handful of relatives who go grocery shopping for them. Unless that person’s soul mate is their mail carrier visualization isn’t what’s holding the person back from their dream, it’s their fear — their shadow self has overtaken and eclipsed their ability to do anything productive, including leaving the house.

We all are on different journeys and have different shadow selves to heal, and be tricked by. There are no mistakes in life, just opportunities to learn and grow created by the part of us that needs to be healed. But when we judge ourselves based on these past experiences as failures, or idiots or whatever, we fail to see that what happened was perfect.

As painful as any situation maybe, it is a chance to go deeper, learn, grow and connect. Negative experiences afford us the opportunity to re-evaluate and stop the unconscious script we are playing out by becoming more conscious, so that we can make better decisions in the future and individuate fully without the constraints put on us by our ancestors’ issues (parents, grandparents, etc.)

When evaluating any spiritual system it is always (in my opinion) important that that system has taken into account all sides of the human psyche. Systems focusing so much on being positive without understanding, or reconciling the internal negative conflicts we all have can be very dangerous to our spiritual and emotional well being. These systems are more akin to drug addiction than actual spiritual work, affording people the chance to slip into a world of fantasy and narcissism where the ego is dowsed in positive affirmations without the proper reflection and integration necessary to actualize and manifest a person’s dreams.

This is why ancient mystic traditions were not only secret, but required intense study, dedication and meditation. People were brought through layers and levels of teaching depending on their innate wisdom and ability to grasp lessons on multiple layers. Not true of many of the easy fix New Age medicine shows offering a cure to everything in the form of some numbered panacea. (The 3 steps to ultimate weight loss, the 8 steps to becoming a millionaire, the 9 steps to happiness, etc.)

It’s easy to understand something intellectually, but without understanding the emotional and spiritual elements of a problem, it can’t be solved. For example one can not choose who one falls in love with. Intellectually, a person might know that person A is bad for them but love is a feeling, not an idea and therefore no amount of logic can remove that feeling. Instead that person has to go through all the feelings necessary to get to the place where they can let go, usually after immense grief and intense pain, to the point where those negative feelings eclipse the feeling of love and the person can no longer hold onto the warmth they felt for the other person without causing themselves great distress. Does that make the person stupid? Absolutely not. Yet we judge ourselves and others as if we should somehow be able to spontaneously turn into robots and be able to use logic to solve our emotional issues.

I suppose my point here is the importance of knowing your shadow, of confronting it, making friends with it and letting it teach you. Otherwise if the shadow is ignored it will eclipse a person’s life and lead to terrible heartache, destruction and pain which hopefully will ultimately lead to understanding. But there is a better way, don’t ignore the darker side of your nature. I’m not saying to indulge it, actually exactly the opposite. I’m saying, know it, listen to it and reflect on it so you don’t feel the irrational urge to act on those feelings. This actually works believe it or not. Awareness is the first step, self-acceptance the next, toward controlling your life rather than being controlled by outside influences (actually more accurately your shadow self which if you’re not fully aware of, will feel out of your control as if stuff is happening to you rather than you are co-creating your life). Not that we always have the choice, the shadow self is a trickster and it tricks everyone at some point or another. But the better a person knows their dark side and allows communication with it, the clearer and the healthier the choices are as well.

And best of all comes the realization that you are a God/Goddess of your own life. Meaning you are co-creator with the divine, part of the divine and given this tremendous gift of consciousness which you can use to achieve whatever goal you set for yourself as long as you are truthful with the wholeness of who you are.
